Matthew Carroll (b. 1982) grew up in both Latin America and in the UK, and has spent a significant amount of time in mainland China and Hong Kong. These formative life experiences embedded in his subconscious a keen interest in people, their culture, and their constructed surroundings. These lie at the root of his curiosity about the characteristics of environments people create for themselves, and how these inform the meaning of their lives.

His long-term projects are poetic explorations of the small, quiet, and quotidian narratives of everyday life. They examine the complex intersection that lies between the places we call home and how these shape dreams, personal realities, and expectations.
